Neutral Hardening

Create a homogeneous and optimised furnace atmosphere that avoids oxidation and decarburisation in a cost-efficient way

Neutral hardening is the most common method to harden metals through heating and quenching. We offer gases and technologies to avoid oxidation and decarburisation in the most cost-effective way possible.

CARBOFLEX® nitrogen-endogas solution

Our CARBOFLEX® nitrogen-endogas solution offers a nitrogen-based atmosphere system in combination with an external endogas generator. This solution proves that nitrogen-based atmosphere systems and endogas make a great combination. CARBOFLEX can be used to create furnace atmosphere zones with varying compositions to meet the requirement of specific alloys being treated.

Highlights:

  • Avoids decarburisation through carbon-neutral atmosphere
  • Enables high surface quality (bright surface, no carbon deposits)
  • Achieves high level of safety by using a minimum volume of flammable   gases and a nitrogen-based safety purge function
  • Reduces costs by minimising total gas consumption, scrap and reworking

CARBOFLEX® atmosphere control system

CARBOFLEX® ACS is an atmosphere control system specially designed for advanced atmosphere control during carburising, neutral hardening and annealing in continuous furnaces. It gives you full control over the carbon potential in up to four zones per furnace, also optimising the heat treatment cycle. Furthermore, its functions provide indispensable support for quality assurance work.

CARBOTHAN® nitrogen/methanol-based system

CARBOTHAN® is a nitrogen/methanol-based atmosphere system, which generates a very flexible, high-quality atmosphere for carburising, neutral hardening, annealing and sintering of steel. The CARBOTHAN atmosphere system includes methanol storage and supply, flow control, injection and distribution to the furnace.

CARBOJET® atmosphere stirring

Our patented CARBOJET® technology ensures a uniform furnace atmosphere without using circulation fans. The system consists of one or several CARBOJET lances with piping and flowtrain. By injecting nitrogen at high velocities into several zones of a roller hearth furnace, CARBOJET creates movement in the furnace atmosphere to ensure homogeneous gas mixing and temperature uniformity.

  • Improved product quality in heat treatment applications such as annealing or carburising etc.
  • Increases heat transfer due to high gas velocities
  • Avoids cold spots and reduces soot formation in heat treatment furnaces
  • Increases the carbon transfer to material surfaces

CRYOFLEX® B box freezer

Our CRYOFLEX® B cryogenic box freezer is designed for processes where temperatures close to liquid nitrogen may be necessary. The box is well suited to small size production and is loaded from the top. In the freezer, the injection of liquid nitrogen is controlled via an electrically operated cryogenic valve. Sprinklers located on the side of the fan create currents of the cooling media, ensuring optimum performance and efficiency.

  • Temperatures down to -180°C/-292°F (liquid nitrogen)
  • Heating option up to +60°C/ + 140°F to eliminate water condensation
  • Customised designs allow higher temperatures for tempering

CRYOFLEX® C cabinet freezer

Our CRYOFLEX® C cryogenic cabinet freezer is designed for processes where temperatures close to liquid nitrogen may be necessary. It is well suited to batch production with front loading. An electric cryogenic valve controls the injection of liquid nitrogen (LIN) into the cabinet. The fans ensure an even temperature within the chamber, allowing for optimum performance and efficiency.

Highlights:

  • Standard and customised dimensions and versions on request
  • Cooling and heating in one unit with temperatures down to
      -180°C/-292°F and as high as +600°C / +1112°F
  • Gaseous nitrogen purge to remove moisture
  • Easy handling due to process data storage system and PLC system

CRYOFLEX® T tunnel freezer

In a continuous heat-treatment process, it is desirable to avoid extra handling and transportation of parts to be sub-zero treated. To accomplish this, we have developed a continuous conveyor belt in a sub-zero tunnel called CRYOFLEX® T. This freezer can be easily integrated into continuous hardening lines. It is well suited to mass production of small or thin parts such as injectors, springs, bolts and nuts.

  • Minimum temperature: -110°C/ -166°F
  • Standard and customised dimensions and versions on request
  • Controlled cooling and process time thanks to adjustable conveyor speed and injected gas volume
  • Easy menu-driven operation and programming via control panel
