Industrial gases can play a key role in helping pulp manufacturers to maximise cost and process efficiencies while reducing the environmental impact of their operations. They do this in a number of ways.
On the one hand, oxygen (O2) is indispensable in modern pulp manufacturing, where it is used, for example, in delignification, bleaching and ozone production. O2 can also increase lime kiln capacity without requiring heavy investments in expensive, high-tech equipment.
Carbon dioxide (CO2), on the other hand, can increase the efficiency of pulp washing and thus reduce water consumption. It also supports biorefining steps by increasing the efficiency of lignin separation.
