Oxygen Generator Wastewater Treatment - for Ozone on Demand
Treating Water and Wastewater with Ozone, One of the Most Powerful Oxidants Available

Leveraging the Disinfecting Power of Ozone in Water Treatment
Ozone, one of nature's most powerful oxidizers, plays an important role when it is injected into effluent, wastewater and other waters. It immediately starts oxidizing. This weakens cell walls and denatures viruses, thus helping to eliminate contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, and metals. It has been shown to break down and remove trace organics, industrial solvents, colors and endocrine-disrupting compounds in water. Due to these strong disinfection and purification properties, ozone has been successfully used in industrial wastewater treatment plants and industrial process water treatment facilities for decades. It is particularly effective at treating industrial wastewater with a high chemical oxygen demand (COD) as found in the textile, pharmaceutical and specialty chemicals industries, and can be used at many steps in the treatment process, including pre-oxidation, intermediate oxidation or final disinfection.
Ozone for Drinking Water
Ozone is also highly effective in the treatment of drinking water after conventional municipal biological treatment due to its ability to reduce contaminants, micropollutants and agricultural residue. This makes ozone a valuable tool in the bid to meet increasingly tight public health regulations limiting residual contaminants and micropollutants in treated wastewater.
Ozone Versus Mineral Acids
As a general bleaching and purifying agent, ozone is an attractive alternative to harsh and hazardous chemical and mineral treatments as - unlike chlorination-based chemical treatments - it does not produce chemical by-products. This makes it an ideal replacement for harmful biocides in the disinfection of cooling water circuits and ornamental water features. It is also an attractive alternative to chlorine in the treatment of public amenities such as swimming pools, themed artificial lakes and in-door architectural water features.
Ozone on Demand for Wastewater Treatment with Bulk O2 Supplies or Oxygen Generators
Ozone cannot be stored so it must be generated on site using air or oxygen as the feed gas. The corona-discharge ozone production process is one of the most common industrial methods used to generate ozone. It works by applying an electrical discharge to ambient air or oxygen that has been fed into the generator. The use of highly concentrated or pure oxygen instead of ambient air to generate pure ozone in industrial quantities offers a number of advantages:
- Higher oxygen concentration in the feed gas, increasing solubility
- Higher production of ozone on a smaller footprint
- No pre-treatment of the feed gas is required
- Cost savings as less power is required with pure oxygen as the feed gas
Boosting Efficiency of Ozone Generation
As one of the world’s leading suppliers of industrial gases, we have decades of experience designing and delivering oxygen generators delivering oxygen on demand at purity levels that are ideal for ozone generation. The ability to generate ozone on demand has the potential to improve the environmental performance and energy efficiency of process water treatment activities. We also support our customers with training in the safe handling of oxygen and ozone gas and with ozone MSDS (material safety datasheets).
Oxygen Ozone Supply Mode to Suit Your Needs
Our water treatment experts would be happy to work with you to establish the best way to supply pure oxygen for your ozone machine. Our supply schemes scale from cylinder bundles through semi-bulk or bulk deliveries to ECOVAR® on-site oxygen generation systems complete with pure oxygen back-ups for added peace of mind. In addition to oxygen plants, we also offer supporting gas management services for ease of deployment.
Increasing Gas Efficiency of Ozone Generators
If you use large quantities of ozone, we can also advise on how to recycle ozone off-gas. This could then be potentially reused in secondary treatment stages. Our adsorption-based OZORATM oxygen capture technology increases the efficiency potential of the ozone generation process by recovering up to 60% of the oxygen used for ozone generation.
