| Anyone lucky enough to have got a ticket for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ in Germany will probably know just how welcome a pre-match beer really was. For many people, a refreshing beer was the only way to combat the sizzling temperatures in the stadiums.
What they may not know is that a major logistical effort went into having beer on tap for such a massive event.
The FIFA World Cup™ stadium catering contract was awarded to ARAMARK, a global leader in professional services, providing award-winning food, hospitality and facility management services.
As Eric Hellmich, Purchase Manager Non-Food at ARAMARK, explains, “Serving beer in the stadiums presented a number of challenges. Besides volume considerations, the quality and purity benchmarks for beer carbonation and dispensing were a lot stricter than those that apply to national German league games.”

ARAMARK found the answer to the strict purity requirements in BIOGON® food-grade gases from Linde Gas. Working directly and through its supplier network, Linde supplied BIOGON® C carbon dioxide to all stadiums that served beer during the FIFA World Cup™.
“The fact that Linde complements its supplier network with its own logistics chain was a big advantage for us,” continues Hellmich. “It meant that we could rely on Linde to supply all of the stadiums with speed, reliability and flexibility – BIOGON® C made a significant contribution to the success of our catering services at the FIFA World Cup™.” |
