Capacity Increase of Waste Water Treatment Plants

Oxygen deficiency can make wastewater treatment problematic. It can result in inadequate purification or even anaerobic decomposition, causing offensive odours.

Problems sometimes experienced in wastewater treatment plants
Lack of oxygen in activated-sludge tanks due to

  • increased wastewater flow or pollutant concentration
  • heavily fluctuating pollutant loads
  • stricter legal requirements governing
    treatment processes
Aeration system failure due to
  • damage to compressors used for diffused/surface aeration
  • plant reconstruction activity
Inadequate nitrogen elimination

Options without pure oxygen
  • Enlargement of plant capacity (build new tanks)
  • Install more aeration equipment
  • Redirect sewage flow to other plants
    (short-term problems)
These solutions require high investment and logistical effort

Options with pure oxygen
  • Inject pure oxygen (permanent solution or emergency procedure)
  • Redesign plant operation based on upstream, intermittent or simultaneous denitrification with pure oxygen
Efficient solutions without high investment

On the right hand side you can see a SOLVOX®-B in a wastewater plant.

Our solution
SOLVOX® supports aeration by introducing pure oxygen into wastewater. This considerably enhances the cleaning efficiency of water treatment plants.

The SOLVOX® process injects pure oxygen into activated-sludge tanks
  • SOLVOX®-B (Oxygen injection with perforated hoses)
  • SOLVOX®-I (Oxygen injection with injector systems)
  • SOLVOX®-R (Oxygen injection with reactors)

The picture below shows a SOLVOX®-I injector

Advantages of pure oxygen instead of air
Injecting pure oxygen into an overloaded activated-sludge plant yields the following benefits
  • Improved sludge setting
  • Higher sludge content in activated-sludge tank
  • Reduced sludge load
  • Increased purification capacity
  • Lower BOD5 and COD concentrations in plant effluent

Such improvements enable plant operators to lower wastewater levies and carry out odourless treatment.

Below an Oxygen metering and control unit can be seen:

Benefits of the SOLVOX® systems
  • Low investment costs
  • Low maintenance costs
  • Quick and easy installation
  • Improved efficiency without enlarging facilities
  • Flexible oxygen injection
  • High oxygen concentrations attainable
