| Linde Technology certified in Japan
On June 12, 2003 the opening of Japan’s first liquid hydrogen filling station was celebrated in Tokyo. The filling station can dispense liquid hydrogen (LH2) as well as 400 bar compressed gaseous hydrogen (CGH2). The facility will support a test fleet of hydrogen-powered vehicles from a number of manufacturers.
Apart from the LH2 refuelling technology, Linde AG, Wiesbaden, also supplies the technology for the gaseous refuelling, namely the innovative compressor system: the 400 bar (5,700 psi) cryo-compressor combines a highly effective compression with low energy consumption. The Linde Gas and Engineering Business Segment was able to complete this project in the challenging timeframe of six months from order to delivery.
The customer and operator is Showa Shell Seikyu KK, in a consortium with Iwatani Intl. Corp. and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The project is part of a hydrogen promotion programme sponsored by the Japanese Government, which is planning the construction of other H2 filling stations in the Tokyo area. In the context of this project, the applied Linde hydrogen technology has been certified for the important Japanese market.
Linde has equipped almost all the liquid hydrogen filling stations presently in existence, and is the leader in the sector of LH2 and CGH2 vehicle fuelling technology up to 700 bar (10,000 psi). |
