Water from natural surface reservoirs, underground wells or via the desalination of sea or brackish water has to undergo several stages of treatment before it can be classified as fit for human consumption. We have developed a series of innovative gas application technologies to meet all drinking water challenges effectively and reliably. Our SOLVOX® and SOLVOCARB® series of water treatment applications are used in raw water treatment for the removal of heavy metals, disinfection, remineralisation, pH control and re-carbonation.
Ozone is a powerful and versatile disinfecting agent that avoidsdoes not produce the chemical by-products associated with chlorination-based chemical treatments. Pure oxygen can boost the production efficiency and reliability of ozone used to disinfect drinking water in many ways. We can provide advice on the supply scheme best suited to your needs, scaling from semi-bulk or bulk deliveries to ECOVAR® on-site generation systems complete with pure oxygen back-ups for added peace of mind. If you use large quantities of ozone, we can also advise on how to recycle ozone off-gas. This could then be potentially reused in secondary treatment stages, reducing oxygenation costs. Gaseous oxygen is also effective in the treatment of raw water, improving iron and magnesium removal while virtually eliminating foaming. In the case of ground water, for instance, oxygen can remove heavy metals and oxidise sulfides upstream of media filtration, ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis. Last but not least, ozone and oxygen treatment improves the taste of water, can reduce colour and improve the performance of media filtration equipment.
When accurate pH matters
The efficiency of many coagulation and precipitation reactions can be optimised by keeping the pH value of water within a very narrow band. This can be achieved by adding carbon dioxide, to control the pH and keep it around the point where many coagulants are at their most effective. When dissolved in raw water, CO2 rapidly forms carbonic acid. Carbonic acid reacts with the alkalinity compounds in the water, lowering the pH of the system. Under our SOLVOCARB® brand, we deliver a range of CO2 solutions for controlling and buffering pH in the range required for most coagulants used in water treatment.
Our SOLVOCARB® R solution, for instance, supports remineralisation after desalination – helping you balance pH, hardness and alkalinity levels to ensure supply water is stable and does not damage the network. After traditional lime-soda or alternative water softening, water must be re-carbonated before it is introduced to the network distribution. Many water reuse plants rely on our SOLVOCARB® R and A offering for re-carbonation after softening. SOLVOCARB® is also ideal for controlling pH in blended waters in conventional water treatment plants.
