How is oxygen used in water and wastewater treatment facilities?

Air can be replaced with pure oxygen (O2) in wastewater aeration schemes to increase the level of dissolved oxygen (DO) in the water. Higher DO enhances the natural purification of water by supporting the aerobic processes enabling biological treatment and disinfection, also helping to control odors, increase capacity, manage foaming, reduce sludge, avoid corrosion and manage costs.

How does carbon dioxide help water and wastewater treatment?

Carbon dioxide (CO2) for pH control supports the neutralization of water. When dissolved in water, CO2 forms carbonic acid, offering nearly linear pH changes at basic pH for precise pH control. Even with variable raw water characteristics, the pH can thus be easily and precisely adjusted without the danger of acidification. Neutralization with CO2 is often less expensive and safer than other mineral acids. In addition, CO2 and lime is required to remineralize desalinated water; it is the final stage after desalination allowing the water to be distributed in the municipal network to the consumer.

Why do I need ozone for water treatment?

Ozone is a powerful bleaching and purifying agent and - unlike chlorination-based chemical treatments - does not produce chemical by-products. It is often combined with other treatment stages - such as media filtration - in the treatment of industrial wastewater. It can also contribute to public health by helping to condition drinking water. To support ozone generation, we offer bulk oxygen deliveries and on-site oxygen generation systems.
