| On 1 August 2006, Linde officially acquired the Turkey-based industrial gas producer Karbogaz A.S. With annual sales of approximately 27 million euros and some 230 employees, Karbogaz is the biggest carbon dioxide (CO2) producer in the Middle East. Karbogaz will initially merge operations with Linde Gaz Istanbul and the new company plans to change its name to Linde Gas in the near future and to move to new premises in Istanbul.
The move puts Linde Gas in an ideal position to capitalise on the rapid economic growth that Turkey has been experiencing in recent years. By leveraging Linde Gas’ extensive portfolio, in-depth application know-how and worldwide reach, the new company will offer greater value-add to its customer base in Turkey and the Middle East.
“With the acquisition of Karbogaz, we are strengthening our position in a growing region and complementing our European leadership,” says Dr. Rainer Schlicher, member of the Operational Board of Linde Gas and responsible for Eastern Europe. “Karbogaz is one of the most important industrial gas suppliers in Turkey, which is the largest national industrial gas market in all of South East Europe and the Middle East.” |
